‘Connecting People to Nature’, the theme for World Environment Day 2017, implores us to get outdoors and into nature, to appreciate its beauty and its importance, and to take forward the call to protect the Earth that we share.
World Environment Day is the biggest annual event for positive environmental action and takes place every year on 5 June.
World Environment Day is a day for everyone, everywhere. Since it began in 1972, global citizens have organized many thousands of events, from neighbourhood clean-ups, to action against wildlife crime, to replanting forests.
This year’s theme invites you to think about how we are part of nature and how intimately we depend on it. It challenges us to find fun and exciting ways to experience and cherish this vital relationship.
It is a good omen that the Minister and the State Minister of Environment held a press briefing which was attended by several media outlets.
The Minister affirmed that the environment security is linked to human security, adding that one of the obstacles in applying the measures that protects the environment is the absence of legislations and the lack of environmental governance along with the absence of transparency, rule of law, and social partnership.
The Ministry under Dr. Hassan Hilal did a lot in regard to environmental information, training, capacity building and the social fence media.
It is high time for our media to take the lead in an environmental awareness campaign to confirm that the environmental security is linked to human security as this will lead to the emergence of collective awareness and upgrading the environmental sense.
God bless Sudan and protect it from environmental risks and negative impacts of climate change.
