Khartoum - (SUNA) Member of the national legislature, Dr Maha Sheikh Babikir, recently urged for the abrogation of the Tahalul (redemption) Article in the Sudan penal code arguing that this article inhibits the application of harsh punishment.
Addressing the session set to discuss the statement by the president of the Republic, Omar Al Bashir, before the National Legislature, the MP argued that war against corruption must continue unabated.
She stressed that legislators have to reconsider the article of Tahalul as there are many corrupt practices that were brought before a court of law but the authors escaped away through the tahalul article in the penal code.
She said situation has spurred so many hard feelings for the people in the street.
Dr Aisha Ghabshawi, another MP has said corruption has become a nightmare and that the legislature has to play its role in fighting corruption so that the people would enjoy their life.
