Minister: Sudan Qualified to be Leading Country in Sugar Industry in the Region

Khartoum - (Khalda Alyas) Minister of Industry Dr. Musa Mohamed Karamah has stressed the importance of giving protection to the local sugar industry, affirming that his ministry is endeavoring for realizing self-sufficiency in the commodity in accordance with the five-year program of the state.
He said it is high time for Sudan to be a regional center for science and applications of sugar production.
Chairing the meeting of the council of directors of the Sudanese Sugar Company at the premises of the company yesterday, the minister said the company is the pioneer of sugar industry in the country, stressing the importance of capacity building for the cadres.
The Director General of the Sudanese Sugar Company, Ahmed Al-Mosbah, on his part, explained that the production season for the year 2017-2018 would be launched as of the 1st of November 2017 at Genaid, Halfa and Sennar sugar factories to be joined by Asalaya factory on November 20, with a total area of 81,672 feddans of sugar cane for the production of 250000 tons of sugar, with an increase of 17,000 tons over the previous season.
