Khartoum and Washington to Resume Dialogue within Weeks

Khartoum- Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour and Acting US Secretary of State John Sullivan have agreed during a telephone call on starting the

second phase of the dialogue within weeks for removing Sudan name from list of states sponsoring terrorism as the two sides have discussed the issue of Renaissance Dam and realization of peace and stability in South Sudan.
According to a statement issued by Acting Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gafaar Somi, the Acting US Secretary of State, John Sullivan, affirmed that the coming days would witness launching of the second phase of the dialogue between the two countries.
Ashorooq.net reported the statement explained that Mr. Sullivan referred to the importance of the relations between Sudan and his country and their looking forward for start of the second phase of the dialogue on removal of Sudan name from list of states sponsoring terrorism.
The statement pointed out that Minister of Foreign Affairs Ghandour said that the Sudan looks forward for normal relations with US as it is and important and big state, so the start of the second phase of the dialogue between the two countries is very important, especially on the issue of removing Sudan name from list of states sponsoring terrorism.
The two ministers discussed UN Security Council’s resolutions on North Korea.
Ghandour affirmed that there is no military cooperation between Sudan and North Korea, reaffirming Sudan’s total commitment to the resolutions of the Security Council.
The statement referred to Sullivan’s welcome to the decision of President of the Republic Field Marshal Omer Al Bashir on declaration of cease-fire for three months till the 30th of next June as well as his welcome to the government’s efforts through the IGAD organization in the peace process in South Sudan and the role being assumed by Khartoum concerning differences over the Renaissance Dam.
Ghandour affirmed that the government would continue the process of completion of peace through the dialogue and the agreed upon mechanisms besides completion of the national project pertinent to the National Dialogue.
