Khartoum - Sudan Council of Voluntary Agencies (SCOVA) held a meeting here Tuesday with the participation of a number of organizations working in Darfur to agree on mechanisms for civil society participation in the arms collection campaign.
The meeting discussed the expected role of the organizations in the national mobilization that is currently witnessed by the country as one of the mechanisms of stability, peace building and peaceful coexistence between groups, where the participants agreed on the need to develop an urgent action plan for the role of organizations through non-traditional awareness programs, insuring the need for more efforts by civil society to encourage voluntary collection of weapons, as well as psychological support programs for vulnerable groups and elimination of the effects of war.
The meeting decided to form a committee to complete the general features of the plan, expand the participation of organizations and hold a workshop for this purpose with the participation of DDR.
