Khartoum Hosted the 5th Session of the Arab Forum on Scientific Research and Sustainable Development from 19 to 21 December
, participated by the The Arab League Education, Culture and Science Organization (ALECSO)and the Secretary-General of the Arab Scientific Research Councils and the Director of the General Department for Science and Scientific Research, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for the Forum and representative of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and a number of directors of Sudanese universities, research centres, researchers and those interested in scientific research issues

State Minster at the Ministry of Higher education and Scientific Research, Prof. Al-Tijani Mohamed Salih thanked the Organization of Arab education, Culture and Science for selecting Sudan to host the Forum in its fifth session , appreciating the organization's efforts in building and developing the research sector Science, stressing that Sudan has been interesting in the scientific and technological sector early, saying that Sudan recently created and linked to its African and Arab environment supports the political decision and provides information on how the nation develop and provide statistics and figures, referring to scientific research as the Renaissance and the stepping stone to progress and prosperity
Al- Tejani, has commended the roles of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), in the building and promotion of scientific researches sector, the transfer of technology and innovation in the Arab countries.
Prof. Azhari Omar Abdelbaki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and scientific research, indicated that the design of the axes of this forum is designed specifically for managers and employees in the scientific research departments to establish a clear footprint to the March of scientific research and innovation towards sustainable development, saying that the Arabic language is still unites the Arab nation and is one of the pillars of the Arab identity and coincide with the launch of World Arabic Language Day.
Dr., Abu al Gasim representative of the (ALECSO), extended his thanks and gratitude to the Republic of Sudan for the support to promote the scientific process in the Arab world
Abu al Gasim has appreciated the Sudan support to the Arab scientific process, pointing to the opening of the forum that coincides with international day of the Arabic language.
The head of the innovation section of the (ALECSO) indicate the organization realization of importance of the sciences and technology, innovation, the social and economic development and environment and have launched a regional project by establishing centers for the transfer of technology in number of the Arab countries, including analytical studies for the national systems of innovation in Egypt, Lebanon, Tunis, Sudan, Morocco, Oman and Mauritania.
It is worth noting that ESCWA provides a framework for the formulation and harmonization of sectoral policies for member countries, a platform for congress and coordination, a home for expertise and knowledge, and an information observatory.
ESCWA activities are coordinated with the divisions and main offices of the Headquarters of the United Nations, specialized agencies, and international and regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and its subsidiary bodies, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The aim through creating the organization as stipulated in Article One of its constitution, is allowing for intellectual unity between the different parts of the Arab region via education, culture and sciences; and raising its cultural standards so that it be up to the duty of keeping up-to-date with the universal civilization and positively contributing in its make. In the framework of this general goal, ALECSO performs a number of tasks which mainly consist in seeking to enhance human resources in Arab countries; the conditions of developing education, culture, science, the environment, and communication in them; the Arabic language and Arab-Islamic culture within the region and overseas; and laying bridges of dialogue and cooperation between this culture and other worldwide cultures
