Sudanese–US Relations Enters Promising New Phase

A delegation of Experts from the International Institute of Education in Washington Visits Sudan

The Sudanese –US relations have entered a promising new phase with great cooperation between the two  sides after Washington’s decision to lift the US economic sanctions .The  delegation of experts from the  Institute of International  Education, Washington DC (IIE ) visit to Khartoum is considered one of important cooperation in the field of science and technology.
A delegation of experts from the  Institute of International  Education, Washington DC (IIE ) arrived in Khartoum  last week
to hold a meeting with the leadership of higher education in the Sudan with a view to assessing the capacity of the institutions Sudanese higher education to build partnerships with its American counterparts in the coming period, so as to promote relations between the peoples of the two countries to Further development and development.
Prof. Azhari Omar Abdel Bagi, undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and scientific research, said the delegation has   discussed  ways of Sudanese-US cooperation in higher education and scientific research in particular and  the International Education Institute in Washington is working to increase the link between universities and educational and research institutions In various countries and United States counterparts in the world, in addition to its role in supporting research institutions and universities in these countries to grants from US funding institutions to finance research projects, exchange of professors and students, training and capacity-building.
 
The visit of the United States delegation has paid a visit to  the universities of Khartoum, Shendi,  the universities of the Gezira , the Nilain , the Sudan for science and technology , Sudan Open university , , and some Archaeological sites in the Sudan, in al-Bagouya, Naqaa and Massawarat.
 Minister of Higher Education and scientific research Dr .Sumaya  Abu Kashwa met in her office,  the delegation of experts from the International Institute of Education in Washington , welcoming them to  Sudan, and hoping that the visit would strong the   cooperation  between the two countries.
The Ministry's conference room was followed by a meeting of the Institute's delegation of Experts of Sudanese Universities, college deans and Chairs of scientific committees and  the National Council for Higher Education and scientific research and a number of university professors, where the meeting discussed ways to develop a partnership mechanism between institutions of higher education of the two countries.
Prof. Azhari Omar Abdel Baki, undersecretary at the Ministry of Higher Education and scientific research, gave a detailed presentation on the process of higher education in the Sudan and institutions and services provided to the community, and then Susan Selvius, Regional Director for Africa and the Middle East, presented the Institute International education in Washington, Susan Stone specializes in education and global cooperation in higher education at the Institute, and Shannon Broder, Head of Business Development Institute, Public lecture on partnerships in and types of higher education provided by the United States Government, and the benefits of such partnerships, Have access to examples of successful partnerships sponsored and sponsored by the Institute. The Institute is working through the US State Department to develop partnerships between us higher education institutions and their counterparts in other countries, he stressed.

From the presentation, Jenny Menoz, Deputy public Relations Officer of the US Embassy in Khartoum, gave a briefing on the donation of the US Fulbright Program for this year and how to submit to it .
The session witnessed a constructive debate between higher education officials in the Sudan and experts from the International Institute of Education in Washington on opportunities for cooperation in higher education between the two countries.
The two sides held an important meeting at the Ministry discussing a number of issues of concern to both sides.the meeting was chaired by Prof. Azhari Omar Abdel Baki, undersecretary at the Ministry of Higher Education and scientific research, with the attendance of experts and a number of the American Embassy in Khartoum .
The Sudanese side made a presentation on information and communications technology in higher education and the external  relations of the Sudanese higher education ,in addition to a presentation on the present situation of the English Language in Sudan and the issues of funding for higher education .
