Strategic Expert: Armed Movements Are No Longer Security Threat in Darfur

Khartoum- The strategic expert and Director of Future Studies Center Ambassador Rabie Hassan Ahmed has affirmed that the armed movements are no longer a security threat in Darfur, pointing out that they lost the support and sympathy they had been receiving from some circles, stressing that great security and political changes had occurred in the past period in Darfur.
He said in a statement to SUNA that the United Nations Security Council has acknowledged improvement of the situations in Darfur considerably, consequently it decided to reduce the UNAMID troops prior to its final exit from Darfur, adding that this would pave the way for final lifting of the sanctions that had been imposed on Sudan next month.
Ambassador Ahmed said this would greatly boost the stance of the Sudan and at the same time weakens the position of the armed movements that had lost international political support.
He praised the decision by the National Prime Minister forming a technical committee for following up implementation of the outcome of the National Dialogue.
