MoU to Achieve Comprehensive Coverage of Health Insurance

Khartoum - Minister of Security and Social development Widad Yagoub Ibrahim, asserted to achieve universal health insurance coverage to  80% by the year20 20.

Widad asserted yesterday during the signing of the memorandum of understanding to complete the coverage of private sector between the Ministry and the Sudanese Businessmen and Employers Federation and Sudan Workers Trade Unions Federation, Widad announced the commitment of all business sectors to provide good services to all workers, She also affirmed her absolute support of the Ministry and the support of programs to fight poverty and all other social issues
Director-General of the National Health Insurance Fund, Dr. Talal  Al-Fadil disclosed the introduction of a million new families funded by the Federal Ministry of Finance. He predicted that the coverage of the poor would reach 90 percent by the end of 2020.
Talal said this is a major shift in the state's commitment to protect the poor from the high cost of medical services. The first half of this year witnessed an increase in the number of States that exceeded the 85% coverage, he said.
Talal referred to the study carried out by the NHIF, which concluded that the medicine and medical service increased to 52% in the year 2017. There are 3,000 health institutions offering services to insured persons in different States of and more than 2,500 pharmacies to provide medicine.
 The Vice-President of the Sudan Workers Trade Unions Federation, Al- Sadiq Kodi, said they were the first partners of the NHIF. More effort and work must be done for the sake of the workers to fight poverty, he said.
Chairman of the Sudanese Businessmen and Employers Federation Saud Mamoun Al-Bereir , said the signing of the MOU is an achievement for all sectors to receive health insurance services,  saying that  a strong health insurance system should be managed to relieve the financial burden of the State.
