Parliament Approves Extension of State of Emergency in Kassala and N. Kordofan States

Omdurman-The National Legislature approved in its emergency sitting yesterday, chaired by Speaker Prof. Ibrahim Ahmed Omer, extension of state of emergency in Kassala

and North Kordofan States for six months.
The report of the ad hoc committee on studying the republican decrees on extension of the state of emergency in the two states affirmed that the move led to drop of police information in Kassala State by 53% and by 25% in North Kordofan State, referring to the advantages that have been realized in the economic and security fields in the two states.
State Minister at the Presidency Haroun Adam Al Rasheed, affirmed that the state of emergency in the two states doesn’t affect freedoms and political activities and the missions of the justice organs.
Commenting on the deliberations by MPs, the State Minister pointed out that the move led to removing many of the economic threats facing the country, indicating that extension of the state of emergency is among measures being made for combating human trafficking crime.
Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and head of the ad hoc committee Dr. Badriya Suleiman, on her part, affirmed that the move doesn’t affect political work, noting that it ensures political and social stability.
