Limkokwing Graduate Opens Malaysia’s First Sudanese Restaurant

(Bernama) AlMohtaram House Restaurant promises an authentic taste of Sudan in Malaysia, the first Sudanese restaurant in Malaysia, not only offers Sudanese cuisine, but also offers its customers an opportunity to experience the rich culture of the African country.
The restaurant, located at Cyber 11, Cyberjaya near here offers a variety of lamb and vegetables dishes, such as grilled and pan chunks, Gurasa Tagaleya, Falafil and Aseeda Tagaleya, Gurasa Tagaleya, Eggplant Salad, Falafil, Shawarma, soup and Aseeda Naemia.
Kamal Gasm Elseed Magbool, 29, who runs the restaurant with brother Ahmad Gasm Elseed, 25, since 2016, has decorated the restaurant with Sudanese arts and handicrafts, such as the traditional guitar, Robaba, to create a homely feeling for their clients, mostly Sudanese students studying at local universities.
“We want to give the world, especially Malaysians, an insight on Sudanese food and culture,” he told Bernama here today.
Kamal Gasm Elseed, said the restaurant, which opens from 12 noon until 3am, had become a favourite joint for international students from local universities such as Limkokwing and the Multimedia University.
The restaurateur, who studied at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology and graduated with a master’s degree in 2010, said he named the restaurant after his father’s nickname AlMohtaram.
His decision to open his business here to expand the family business.
Meanwhile, a counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan, Howida Ahmed Ibrahim, said the restaurant would help strengthen the relationship between the Malaysian and Sudanese people.
“I hope that this restaurant will bring Malaysia and Sudan together and I hope that the relationship between the two countries will continue for the benefit of the two nations,” she said.
