Environment Ministry Calls for Formulation of an Environmental Strategy

Khartoum - The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Urban Development, Dr. Omer Mustafa appreciated the effort being carried out by the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA) for combating pollution and oil slicks.
He announced that the organization will organize, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, a workshop for environment training and another workshop on marine resources, in cooperation with the Sudanese Journalists Union during November 30 – 31.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment has affirmed the ministry's keenness to enable the media to participate in the environment issues, considering environment as the basis for realizing sustainable development.
He called for coordination of efforts between the national, regional and international organizations in formulating a strategy for expanding environment awareness, education and communication.
He indicated that the organization is engaged in efforts to enhance the environment work and the sustainable development in the Arab countries, adding that the organization is also cooperating, engaged in partnerships and exchanging expertise with other organizations in the field of environment.
Mustafa has stressed the importance of creating a health environment which is free from aspects of pollution.
He underscored the importance of setting mechanisms to confront the current and future challenges that are facing the environment work in Sudan and to exchange experiences with the Arab countries.
He called for formulating a method for preserving the ecological balance.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA), Ziad bin Hamza, has asserted the organization's keenness to protect the environment of the Red Sea and to provide technical and logistic support to the countries at the region for conservation of the environment balance.
The Chairman of the Sudanese Journalists Union, Al-Sadiq Al-Rizeigi, said that training is an essential means to expand the environmental awareness and culture.
He called on the media to work for disseminating the environmental education and culture in the society toward guaranteeing a healthy environment.
