Sudan Participates in Pest Control Meetings in Africa

Khartoum (SUNA) - Sudan participated in the meetings of the Desert Locust Monitoring and Agricultural Pest Organization in East Africa

, which was held in Kenya during 27-29 September in the presence of representatives of member countries. The State Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Nahar Osman Nahar led the Sudanese delegation. "The meeting discussed raising the level of food security and combating insects and migratory pests," Nahar said in a statement to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA). The meeting discussed the challenges of food security and agriculture and its role in fighting poverty. The State Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture said that the meeting stressed the need to continue technical support and training for Member States. He added that the organization would continue its role in the fight against agricultural pests and insects, saying that agricultural pests would eliminate more than 30 percent of annual crops. SUNA is to inform that the upcoming meetings of the organization is scheduled to be held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa and that the organization has great cooperation with the international organizations, especially FAO.
